The Barefoot Rest House was built as a single-family home about one hundred years ago by a Great Lakes Schooner ships captain. While in port, the salty old captain wanted to rest in a comfortable home that was conveniently located near the stores and activities only blocks away in downtown Sturgeon Bay. And he also chose the site in order to keep his eye on the shipyards across the street and to watch the beautiful sunsets over the bay.

Eventually, the present owner purchased the home, and he has spent the past ten years remodeling it into the Barefoot Rest House Bed-and-Breakfast, offering sparkling comfortable accommodations for less expense than other Door County lodgings (one-night stays also available).

Within walking distance to Historic Downtown Sturgeon Bay and located across the street from Sunset Park (Boat launch and Beach access), our guests enjoy private baths, free wireless and cable, a continental breakfast with eggs to order, complimentary bikes, bike and vehicle parking, our green business certification, a communal patio and living room, and helpful, friendly, open-minded staff – all before and after days of exploring all that Door County has to offer.
